September 2019, Cape Town – Set between the Simonsberg and Groot Drakenstein mountains Boschendal is an exceptional farm spanning 4500 acres (1800 hectares) resting inside the breathtakingly beautiful Franschhoek Valley. Spring is the time to explore Boschendal in all its glory and the farm is showcasing the season with a variety of activities and special offers for every age and interest.

The Ever-Popular Friday Night Market

Boschendal’s Friday Night Market is a true marker of spring in the Cape with the first of the season took place on 6 September with new stalls, new food offerings, and additional family-fun activities. This event has proven to be the idyllic way to end the week with a glass of Boschendal MCC, fresh oysters and local live music, plus Boschendal’s signature selection of farm-fresh produce; also artisanal crafts and products from likeminded suppliers are available for purchase on the night. Also to look out for: Boschendal’s Deli has been refreshed and reopened with a new menu. Children are entertained at the Tree House with a supervised programme including storytelling, stargazing, and an outdoor cinema with bottomless popcorn. Children ages 4 to 14 are welcome and the cost is R100 per child. Hours for the market are 6 – 9 PM.

Boschendal’s Seasonal Picnics Straight from the Farm

The in-demand picnics at Boschendal also started up again on 6 September. Picnics are served in two beautiful areas within the farm: the Rhone Rose Garden and also near the Werf. The picnic area at the Rhone lawns has spectacular mountain views and is surrounded by exhibition vineyards, the Rhone Homestead, the Cellar Door and Boschendal Winery thus making this the classic winemaking hub of Boschendal. During the week a seated area is available for serving and enjoying the picnic baskets. The Werf Farm Picnic is a more relaxed affair and guests are welcome to bring their own blankets, chairs and tables to enjoy a leisurely afternoon under the trees of the Pavilion lawn, next to the main werf and Boschendal’s farm-to-table hub. These picnics are served on the weekends and local bands play throughout Saturday afternoon from the Pavilion. Only naturally grown produce from the estate, as well as locally artisanal goods, are used in seasonal picnic baskets thus menus change depending on availability of fresh farm produce. For the month of September there is a Picnic Special on offer: book a Werf Farm Picnic for 4+ people and receive a complimentary bottle of Boschendal Chardonnay Pinot Noir.

Wine-tasting: Redesigned

What might have been a traditional affair, Boschendal is shaking up their offerings and setting the bar high for unique wine tasting experiences. Visitors now have the option to have three different encounters with the estate’s wine: at the Cellar Door Wine Tasting Centre, on long tables under the oak trees in front of the Werf Restaurant, and premier wine tastings and pairing at the historic Manor House. The Cellar Door Wine Tasting Centre is open for pre-booked and walk in guests who are looking for a relaxed and informal experience. Guests especially enjoy the ‘Boule and Bubbly’ tasting where they can sip on Boschendal’s MCCs while playing the traditional French game of Boule. A brand new tasting is now taking place in front of The Werf Restaurant together with an out-of-this-world farm plate menu to accompany the tastings. This is perfect option for spring weather. The recently refurbished Cape vernacular Manor House is home to the premier wine tasting, where guests have signature experiences presented from a private room and a Historic Tasting of 5 wines representing the history of Boschendal and a Connoisseur Tasting of 5 limited release wines.

Concerts on the Lawn

The summer concerts will begin on 26 November. Follow updates on the website for more information.
